This is the story of the Morro Torrens brothers who began to produce plants almost as a hobby.
Back in 1972, when the brothers were still young, María Torrens Piza, the mother, worked as a seamstress and combined her profession by taking care of a vineyard she had with a wide variety of table grapes and in the summer she dedicated herself to selling the production to different markets. She began to take boxes of plants made by her and also others made by each son so that they could earn some "duro" (5 pesetas at that time). En Mateu, En Joan and Na Magdalena were happy to see how those little plants, ribbons, cacti were sold...
Little by little, the mother stopped working as a seamstress and began to sell more plants at the Pere Garau Market and at the market in her town of Santa María del Camino. Around 1982, she moved to the Olivar Market until she retired. It is currently rented to another family, but even today, you can still read the name Vivers Santa Maria.
His father, Mateu Morro Cañellas, came from a family of lumberjacks and it just so happens that 3 brothers also got together to open a sawmill. Both father and mother have been nature lovers and have liked working in the fields, something they instilled in their children.
Meanwhile, the children were finishing their studies and when Mateu finished COU, he decided to go to study at a school in Valencia, specifically in the town of Catarroja, to start a second-level FP and study to become an agricultural technician specialising in ornamental plants. Mateu has always been passionate about nature and has an innate gift for discovering and recording new plants. Even when he was very, very young, he would go to his neighbours' house looking at everything they had in the yard to find out what each plant was, what name they had and after so many years it seems like a botanical encyclopaedia. There is no plant that he does not know!
When Joan finished COU, he followed in the same footsteps as his brother. He went to study at the same school and also obtained his degree. He prefers to work outside the nursery and is the one who has specialised in the creation and execution of gardening projects. Most of the plants he plants usually come from his own plantation, since VIVERS SANTA MARIA produces a wide variety of resistant, original Mediterranean plants that require little water.
When Magdalena finished COU in 1985, she was not sure what she wanted to study. During the summer, together with her brothers, they began to try to produce their own plant production and went to sell them in the markets, like their mother. She liked the world of creating nature and experimenting with plants so much that she has not been able to stop until today. She has created her own school. She loves to produce, to check that everything is in its place, she is the detail-oriented member of the family, she is always making changes in the store to surprise the customer.
In 1987, the three brothers decided to really get together and consolidate VIVERS SANTA MARIA. They started at their Foravila Production Estate, as they call it, and years later they expanded it to the Ses Basses Estate, where they are currently located. In total, they manage an area of about 65,000 m².
Now that you know a little more about the history of Vivers Santa Maria, it is important to highlight, as its name suggests, that it is located in the town of Santa Maria, 15 minutes from Palma and 5 minutes from the Mallorca Fashion Outlet (Old Festival Park). It has easy access and ample free parking.
